| Moses C. Davis Awards
The Moses C. Davis Volunteer and Professional of the Year Awards are named for the man who is recognized as the founding father of the Georgia credit union movement. Moses C. Davis was a charter member of Atlanta Postal Credit Union who not only served on the credit union’s board of directors as Treasurer and General Manager, but also became the League’s first Managing Director and National Director. Davis served as manager of Atlanta Postal Credit Union for 43 years and, during that time, he became one of the founders of CUNA Mutual Insurance Society and the Georgia Deposit Insurance Corporation. Davis’s years as League Managing Director were marked by substantial growth in credit unions and enthusiasm and zeal in spreading the credit union idea. His passionate devotion to credit unions, credit union advocates and members of credit unions led Davis to find ways to better serve them by finding relief from restrictive laws. Since the award’s inception in 1985, the Moses C. Davis Awards have recognized the very best volunteers and professionals of the Georgia credit union movement… individuals who have displayed the highest levels of service and professionalism and personify the credit union’s philosophy, “People Helping People.”
The Moses C. Davis Volunteer and Professional of the Year Awards recognize the credit union volunteer/professional who has recently gone above and beyond the normal call of duty to support the credit union movement. (For example, efforts to implement a new product or services or a multi-year building project.) Winners of this award will be recognized for their efforts to help craft an environment that allows credit unions to grow and prosper in order to better serve their members. Individuals nominated for this award should have a record of productive service to their credit union, the League and its subsidiaries, Chapters, Credit Union National Association and the International Credit Union System.
A volunteer that is nominated will have contributed time, effort, and talent to the development/growth of his/her credit union, the chapter or the credit union movement in Georgia. The professional who is nominated deserves recognition for his/her contributions to advance the credit union, chapter, the credit union movement in Georgia and the nation.
Awards will be presented annually to one volunteer and one professional from Georgia. Individuals, credit union boards and chapters can nominate individuals for each category from an affiliated credit union. It will be the responsibility of the sponsor to describe the exceptional contributions that the nominated individual(s) have made that make them worthy of the award.
Nominations are to be sent to the President/CEO of Georgia Credit Union Affiliates by February 1. Nominations will be judged by an outside source (CUNA or other leagues) before March 1.
The judges may not approve more than one recipient in each category in any single year. Individuals may be nominated more than once and may win more than once if their outstanding contributions warrant. This ensures that the list of recipients will always consist of individuals that are truly deserving of the Moses C. Davis Volunteer and Professional of the Year Awards. Winners will be recognized during the GCUA Annual Convention with press releases sent to credit union trade press after the Annual Convention.
