Statesboro, GA (September 16, 2009) – Members of CORE Credit Union received a little more than they expected on Friday, September 4th. Along with the usual cash and lollipops, staff members handed out nearly 500 bottles of hand sanitizer.
Health experts recommend washing hands as one step to prevent catching, or spreading, the flu. With the particularly bad flu season this year, CORE wanted a way to help its members and their families. Many CORE members visit the credit union on Friday, so that day was chosen as the perfect day to help combat the flu by handing out hand sanitizer.
When asked how the idea came together, CORE Credit Union President and CEO, Bobby Michael said, “Over the last month, coverage of the H1N1 flu virus became more prevalent in the media. We decided there probably wouldn’t be a better use of the CORE logo hand sanitizers we purchased earlier in the year. We titled the endeavor ‘Fight the Flu Friday’ as a way to provide something small, but meaningful, to our members in a timely and caring way. By noon, we knew it was very well received and appreciated by our Credit Union members.”
