Middle Georgia (June 30, 2009) – MidSouth Federal Credit Union announces the recipients of its 2009 Tom Bentley Memorial High School and Continuing Education Scholarship programs.

Amanda Carter, daughter of James and Karen Carter of Macon, was awarded the 2009 High School Scholarship.  A graduate of Tattnall Square Academy, Ms. Carter plans to attend The University of Georgia this fall and earn a degree in Pre-Pharmacy.  The high school scholarship is a $4,000 award that is paid to the recipient’s college in installments of $1,000 per year.

Janette Carter, of Macon, was awarded the 2009 Continuing Education Scholarship.  Ms. Carter is currently earning her Master’s Degree in the Collaborative Education Program at Mercer University.  Her future plans involve teaching at the university level.  The continuing education scholarship is a $2,000 award that is paid to the recipient’s college in installments of $500 per year.

Applicants were judged on the basis of grades, SAT/ACT scores, service provided in school and in the community, recommendations by teachers or administrators, and financial need.

Judges for this year’s scholarship program were Brenda Griffin, Executive Assistant for the Macon Economic Development Commission; Dr. Ivan Allen, President of Middle Georgia Technical College; Gerry Marshall, radio personality and President of StarMar, Inc., and Beth Byers, Associate Director of Development at Macon State College.
